About the client
Grrrl Justice is an experimental narrative short film created by multidisciplinary artist, filmmaker, and musician Shontina Vernon for Visionary Justice StoryLab. The film follows three characters—one being released from juvenile detention, another being exploited by a sex trafficker, and one navigating the school-to-prison pipeline—to explore the pathways of girls and queer youth of color into the juvenile justice system using gender and sexuality as frameworks for understanding their rising rates of incarceration.
The film has screened at prestigious venues including HBO's O.G. Experience in NYC and has been part of national community engagement series, reaching audiences across the country through partnerships with organizations like the ACLU and various cultural institutions.
